Virginia Sinkoski Caregiver’s Respite Program
The Virginia Sinkoski Caregiver’s Respite Program provides a $750 scholarship that enables a caregiver to arrange for, and afford, a brief respite from providing daily care to a person with dementia.
Caregiver must reside in one of the four counties of Western Massachusetts: Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin or Berkshire County, and person with dementia must be living at home. A caregiver must fill out a brief application and participate in a cost-free care consultation. Once these steps have been accomplished, the application will be reviewed by the Respite Committee. Once a respite award has been made, the caregiver can retain the services of a home care provider, an adult day health program, or facility-based respite program. Costs up to the amount of the reward will be paid directly to the respite provider. Caregiver must begin using scholarship within six months of award, and scholarships expire 12 months after being awarded. Applicants can reapply for a scholarship every 12 months, pending availability of funds.
