Team Building
Teams help each other train, fundraise, and enjoy the spirit of Memory ride ― and may be comprised of riders and volunteers. Help recruit more voices to advocate for a cure to end Alzheimer’s disease.

Recruit your family, friends, and colleagues to join your team
Create a team name and register your team online at www.MemoryRide.org.
Set recruitment and fundraising goals. These can be adjusted as more riders join your team.
Ask your network of cyclists and potential newbie riders to join your team and your effort to end Alzheimer’s disease.
Send them a letter or email with information on how to register for your team. Some people will be unable to ride with you, but still want to support your efforts.
Keys to success
-
Reach high! The most successful teams are those who aren’t afraid to set a challenge goal. Your donor commitments will match yours.
-
Fundraise as a team. IMPORTANT:The fundraising total for teams simply needs to add up to the sum of its parts. For example, if your team is made up of (2) 30 mile riders and (2) 62 mile riders, your team total needs to be $1,500 ($250 + $250 + $500 + $500.) So work together to reach ― and surpass ― your goal!
-
Host a team fundraising event. This is a wonderful way to work and fundraise together as a team.
-
Host a party at a local restaurant or bar. Many establishments will donate a portion of the sales from the evening of your promotion.
-
Throw a theme party: wine tasting, country line dancing, costume, gourmet, etc. and charge $20 at the door.
-
Hold a sale: garage, bake, etc.
-
Organize a “thon”: swim, bowl, karate, dance, etc.
-
Sell a service: washing cars, cleaning apartments, or handyman services.
-
Hold a contest: chili cook-off, desert, etc.
-
Add offline gifts received to your fundraising “HQ”. Remind your team members to log their offline gifts received (cash and checks) in their personal fundraising web pages. Additional cash and checks sent to the Alzheimer’s Association will be processed and attribute to your team fundraising pages, but will take 1-2 weeks to process.
-
Celebrate your team’s accomplishments and enjoy the ride! This includes training rides and Memory Ride on July 14, 2012. Make sure to take pictures to share with donors.
-
After the Memory Ride, continue fundraising and collecting donations.
-
Make sure to thank your donors. Share your fundraising success and Memory Ride experience!
Hosting a team kickoff event
Team kick-off event
A great way to get your team excited about the 2012 Memory Ride is to have a special Team Kick-Off Event just for your team. This will build team spirit and get everyone energized and organized around fundraising for Memory Ride. Hold the kickoff event 2-4 months prior to the ride to maximize your team’s fundraising potential.
-
Have a team BBQ at a local park or in someone’s back yard. Make it potluck!
-
Have an ice cream social and everyone can make their own sundae.
-
Meet at the team captain’s house for a big family-style picnic.
Important things to cover
-
Details about the Memory Ride: when, where, how, etc.
-
Set/review your team goal and set a date for when team members should turn in funds they have collected.
-
Show everyone how to register and update their personal page.
-
Team fundraisers: brainstorm fun ideas that everyone is interested in doing. Delegate tasks to your team members. You can’t do everything as a team captain.
-
Tell your story – and allow riders a chance to share their story about how Alzheimer’s disease has impacted their lives.
Distribute materials
-
Have each team member register as part of your team online before or during the kick-off.
-
Give each rider brochures to distribute as needed. The Alzheimer’s Association staff can send you more if you need them!
